IB at Vanier:
Vanier College offers one of the most rigorous academic program known throughout the
whole world, the International Baccalaureate Program in Commerce or Science. A non-profit
seeking and public college, Vanier looks forward to help every students to achieve
excellence while enjoying their two years in this program.
Programs:
The IB Science and the IB Commerce programs are offered here at Vanier. In the Commerce
program, students can choose Spanish or Computer Science as a complementary course.
You only get one semester of physical education, but you get three or four semesters
of french if you choose the Spanish complementary course. The language courses are there
to make you a perfect bilingual and be ready for international communications. Other
than that, the student will have Calculus 1 & 2, Linear Algebra and Statistics, Theory
of Knowledge, IB English and IB meetings.
Science students will have Chemistry, Physics and Biology.
Commerce students will have Business Management and Ecological Systems.
Mission Statement:
The International Baccalaureate Program's goal is to ensure the total understanding
and expertise of the student in the chosen options and being ready to continue his/her
education towards higher fields. The International Baccalaureate organization, located
in Geneva, the students, the staff and the teachers are working in team in order to
achieve excellence throughout their performances. Recognized globally, this IB Diploma
will bring you face-to-face with real life situations and get you prepared for
international science and/or commerce.
Services:
You need a minimum of 80% to get in the IB Program. Every year, the school offers entrance
scholarships of 100$ to 500$ to students who achieved academically during their high
schools (minimum 85%). During the semester, there are also other scholarships that are
offered to academic programs such as Science Plus, Majors, and the IB.
The IB students also have their own center to study, on the fifth floor of the
librairy, a dozen of computers are available, along with a large librairy at their use
(mostly math and science books). Many staffs work there to help the students and tutor
them.
Other than that, students who chose computer science as a complementary course have
access to six different computer labs with windows XP and Visual Studio.net in the D200s.
The learning centre is also available for anyone, not only to the IB students. The
assistants and the staff will be happy to help you in lectures, correcting, readings or
brainstorming ideas. You can also borrow books, dictionnaries and print for free in the
centre. There is also a quiet room in the learning centre for people who would like to
study in quiet.
